Description of Boot 98 program from Softdepia.com:
Since Boot 95 made it that popular and because of many requests by Windows NT users I decided to develop an enhanced version of this boot utility also supporting DOS and Windows NT. Especially the realization of a graphical easy-to-use-and-understand interface for Windows NT was a challenge since the BOOT.INI file uses a more complicated syntax than the MSDOS.SYS file of Windows 95. The ARC (advanced RISC computing) pathnames for example do require special attention regarding their format.
As with Boot 95 before I tried to design Boot 98 optically pleasant and not to overload the screens. Colored elements support certain conditions of the user progress. For example do the edit boxes for the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT file change their background color when any change was made that is not saved yet. Additionally does the About Tab now display detailed information about the users system.
Boot 98 is accompanied with an extensive WinHelp 4 file. Every single setting is explained in detail and a simple F1 keystroke on any of the dialog elements will pop up the according help topic. The help file alone took a lot of research and development time.
A special feature is a button in the DOS Tab that launches the Microsoft® MS-DOS Mode Wizard that is available as freeware in the so called Microsoft® Kernel Toys. This utility addresses the settings for the MS-DOS mode in Windows 95/98.
Boot 98 is a "Free to try" program. You can download and try it for an evaluation period.
