Description of DMedia Extra program from Softdepia.com:
DMedia Xtra makes use of the modern DirectX technologies which are now evolving rapidly under Microsoft Windows. To learn more about DirectX and Windows Media technologies, look at the Microsoft Web site. The main purpose of our job was to write a DLL to mix several media sources for further synchronization through Lingo while NOT using the standard and "buggy" Director sound mixer. If you use DMedia Xtra, you also don't need QuickTime mixer thus avoiding additional installation and a mess with different QuickTime versions. DMedia Xtra takes the control over the variety of different sound/video file formats thus letting the Windows itself (and not the developer!) decide which filter for which sound/video format should be involved. Evidently, in the development of Windows related applications it is always a good programming practice to place direct API calls rather than rely here on (sometimes weird and inadequate) Director built-in routine. As bonus feature, DMedia Xtra gives a developer the control over the Master volume of the Windows system sound mixer (standard Lingo cannot handle it). Independent adjustment of the Direct Media sound volume (similar to the Windows Media Player) is also included.
DMedia Extra is a "Free to try" program. You can download and try it for an evaluation period.
