Yankee Clipper, a Windows 9x/NTx clipboard stacker/memory program has been updated. The prior version was listed in the April 1998 PC World magazine "Best Free Stuff Online" article and the August 1998 PC Computing magazine "Amazing Free Stuff" article. The new version is not Freeware, it is an inexpensive shareware program. The program is totally functional for ninety days- check the "About" box for remaining time. After ninety days you will be "reminded" and your clipboard history will not be saved between sessions. We now have online registration. Registered users will get free upgrades forever. (Forever??? Well, as long as I'm around and kicking. Save your registration email.) After the registration process is finished you will be lead to a secure link where you can download the full version.
Yankee Clipper II is an Explorer-like application. It supports Drag & Drop of text (To and From.), dropping of text files on Yankee Clipper II automatically reads them in. URLs can also be Drag&Dropped to/from Yankee Clipper II, and YC II is "URL aware"- it can detect most URLs and launch them from the right click menu. YC II keeps commonly used snippets or entire documents in instantly accessible boilerplate files. To insert a boilerplate text into your favorite editor simply grab the entry with your mouse and drop it on your editor. Yankee Clipper II now also supports "Load and Shoot"- select an entry and then simply place your cursor where you want the text pasted. Yankee Clipper II comes with an improved three month calendar. The calendar provides a quick and easy way to copy the date to the clipboard in several formats.
In keeping with the developers' opinion that "the simpler the interface, the better", Yankee Clipper II does not have 147 different menu selections. It has seven large buttons and a couple of right-click menus. It is designed to be a program that I can show someone how to use in a couple of minutes. I have tried several similar products and they seem to suffer from "feature glut". Many individual believe that to improve a program you need to add more menus, give the user more options. I believe that the cleaner the interface, the better. I also believe that adding features of dubious value can make the truly useful ones hard to find or even confusing. For example, the code to handle Bitmaps/Metafiles was in the original BETA version of YC II. It worked just fine, but I was concerned that memory usage would be a problem, so I disabled those functions. Only one user has asked about this. If there is significant interest I will re-enable this functionality in version 1.1.
Yankee Clipper II is a "Free to try" program. You can download and try it for an evaluation period.
